The Caffè Nazionale in a period photo

Few steps beyond the Caffè Nazionale on the left, the elegant Albergo Centrale can be seen. It was built around the mid-nineteenth century, designed by engineer Dalla Vecchia and conceived as part of the Hotel Trettenero located opposite the Farmacia Reale which preserves the decor and furnishings of past times.

Facade of the Albergo Centrale

Opposite the Farmacia Reale there is a vaulted entrance through which you can enter the Hotel Trettenero which has a projecting roof in the exclusive liberty style. An iron and glass structure with a shelf support typically exemplify this style. There is also a transparent canopy with sides of coloured glass. We can now see a charming inner courtyard with an adjacent park. The main nucleus of the hotel complex, among the first and most prestigious in the centre of Recoaro, in neo-Gothic style, dates back to the first half of the nineteenth century. It was later extended with two buildings on either side of the hotel.

extended with two buildings on either side of the hotel. There is an interesting feature of a type of decoration or covering somewhat typical of the nineteenth century, known as degli inganni (deceptions) which creates the optical illusion of a three-dimensional marble finish. Another impressive wall surface is the contrast of the two-tone red and yellow panels. In the elegant Salone delle feste (banquet hall), an exquisite Murano glass chandelier can be seen together with a rose window on the far wall.

In the Piazza Dolomiti the current church dedicated to Sant’Antonio Abate, built around 1950 and designed by the architect Giuseppe Vaccaro, replaced the previous parish church, which was located on the opposite side of the square along the edge of Via Roma.
